Rehearsing in my Van

LYRICS:
You find it hard to get figured out, you feel a little tired and weak
Walls are closing in on you faster now, can’t even find rest in your sleep
Nothing you do seems to satisfy you, your rebel mind is letting you down
Feeling like theres nothing left to surprise you, alone within this brazen town

Roses out, you had your fun, now that Ol Sheriffs coming in the noon day sun
Coming hard with a fresh horse, and a loaded gun

All around your heads in so many places, shotgun in the devils crown
All in and fresh out of aces, looking back with the pedal down
Cant even hide up in the mountain roads, or in the crystal sea
There isn’t anywhere that you can go, to escape this reckoning
!

Over and over again I come back to the fact that this particular song does not need a bridge.  I believe the song says enough as it is, but I am still open to a great bridge, though often times the bridge distracts from the song and thats the one thing you want to watch out for when writing one.

Deciding whether a song needs a bridge sometimes only unfolds when you start to produce the song.  I literally wrote the bridge for The Darkest Dawn the night before I recorded it in Nashville, in the hotel room in my underwear.  I still have the video of that, and ill share all that when I share The Darkest Dawn with you, but for now, Ol Sheriff…

I wanted to remind everyone, especially wrongdoers, people who steal, kill, rape, extort, deceive, manipulate, that there is a justice at some point…no one escapes it.  Justice is inherent in us and its not going anywhere.  I see it every time I watch the First 48, almost all of them get caught.  I see it when uber rich people get thrown in jail for the rest of their lives.  I see it when people who have taken advantage of people their whole lives have no one and nothing when they are passing.  It saddens me, yes, and I feel for those who don’t and cant escape the reckoning of justice, but this song isn’t an I told you so song, its a warning song.  Im imploring would be wrongdoers to remember you cannot get away with anything in this world, even if you make it all the way to your death, the torment itself will destroy your soul.

The Ol Sheriff is Justice, the vengeance of truth and the truth of vengeance.  The song also gives me peace when I see how many people continue to hurt the world with malicious deliberation over and over and over again with little to no repercussion or concern whatsoever, as I know the true consequence for them is in their soul and they cannot escape the true justice, wrath, and reckoning of creation.  Think about it, See for yourself how enraged you get when an injustice occurs, either in your own life or someone else’s, we are engrained with justice, we are moved by it.  It is much older than us and has been around since the beginning. Desire peace and love mercy my friends, do right and love right… no one escapes the Ol Sheriff.

So, the first recording is the direction, the feel, the birth… the second recording is my production of it, still, just a demo.  I cannot wait till I get to work with someone great to finish this song. Im having such a hard time deciding whether its done or not, as I said, The Darkest Dawn haunted me with the need for something else, like a bridge, until literally the night before I recorded it.  Ol Sheriff may be the same type of song, but if you like it let me know and forgive the recordings.  Remember guys the songs i send you are not always going to be finished, polished songs… I am not that good of a producer!  If your on the Ryders I sent you the produced version, if your not, get on it and you’ll get everything I share with them as well!  One love, ryan
